A Review of 2022-2023 ISMP Targeted Medication Safety Best Practices (Patient Safety Module)
Learning Objectives
1. Describe how the Institute for Safe Medication Practices determines which recommendation to include in their Best Practices document.
2. Review select best practices which may apply to hospital and outpatient settings.
3. Discuss ways pharmacy practice sites can incorporate improvements into their workflow to comply with ISMP Medication Safety Best Practices.
4. State how technicians can play a role in the development and implementation of strategies to meet ISMP Medication Safety Best Practices.
5. Recognize the difference of low, medium, and high leverage strategies that can be used to prevent errors with high-alert medications.
